Alicia creates inviting comfort food that both vegans and meat eaters enjoy. She was kind enough to sit down with VeganConsultant.com to discuss ethical vegan choices, signature cooking style and a sneak peek into her third book coming out!

    1.  What is the main reason you live a vegan lifestyle?

Veganism is at the core of my ethical beliefs. In fact, I was raised with much of the ethical principles of veganism, such as animal rights, so for me veganism is just a natural extension of who I am and who I was raised to be. For me, veganism is an ethical choice, a choice to better my health and a choice that helps the Earth and enviroment I love so dearly.

    2.  How would you describe your style of cooking?

I didn’t realize I had a style of cooking until my publisher pointed it out to me and that style is comfort food. My favorite part of cooking and creating recipes is sharing them with friends and family and that is really what comfort food is all about – the foods that make you feel at home wherever you are.

    3.  What is your favorite dish to create for a family party?

As anyone who has ever been to a party at my house can tell you, tacos are my favorite meal to make for a crowd and have become one of my family’s favorite dishes to make as well. The Fool Your Friends Tacos from Quick and Easy Vegan Comfort Food  take less than 15 minutes to put together and work great as a buffett style taco bar where guest can pile on their favorite toppings.

    4.  Are most of your clients’ vegans or non vegans wanting to try something new?

I find that the great majority of people that I talk to are non vegans who want to transition to a vegan lifestyle. I can’t describe how wonderful it is to meet more and more people everyday who have a genuine interest in going vegan and staying vegan. When I first transitioned from a vegetarian to a vegan I had some many questions and wasn’t quite sure where to go for all the answers, now there are so many options and forum’s available I simply can’t stop smiling.

    5.  What’s next for you?

Currently I’m working hard on my third book Quick and Easy LOW-CAL Vegan Comfort Food  which will be in stores January of 2012 as well as launching a new recipe/cooking blog that veganizes and slims down Paula Deen recipes called The Lady and Seitan.
